ECON401: Senior Seminar: Forming Search Queries

Fall2012

Forming Search Queries

Using your previous brainstorming or background reading, list the related terms for each concept that's a part of your research question. Remember to include broad terms, narrow terms, and any abbreviations for each concept. Your question should be complex enough to have at least two concepts. Use a chart to list your concepts, and the related terms:

Research Question: How are early education programs, such as Head Start, effective in increasing the academic success of children of low-income families?

Use AND to combine major concepts

Use OR to connect related terms, and use PARENTHESES () to allow grouping of related terms.

Example search queries:

  1. head start AND academic success
  2. (preschool OR pre-k) AND cognitive development
  3. early childhood education AND low income AND achievement
