Evaluating Websites

You need to take steps to evaluate all of the information that you use in your research. Special care must be taken with websites. Keep these factors in mind when you're thinking about using information from a website:

Humanprogress.org "Humanprogress.org collects global data on topics ranging from gender equality and health to energy and economics from the WorldBank, the FAO, the WHO, and other reliable sources, and makes that data extremely accessible in a variety of forms including easily downloadable charts. This makes it a great resource for students."
United Nations Multidimensional Poverty Index The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) is a new international measure of poverty which complements income-based poverty measures by reflecting the multiple deprivations that people face at the same time across 104 developing countries. The MPI identifies deprivations across health, education and living standards, and shows the number of people who are multidimensionally poor and the deprivations that they face on the household level.

Search for reports, press releases, appeals for action and newsletters in the Amnesty International Library (see link at top of the page). Also contains video and audio.
Brookings Institution The Brookings Institution is a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, DC. Our mission is to conduct in-depth research that leads to new ideas for solving problems facing society at the local, national and global level.
United Nations - Offical Document System The Official Document System (ODS) is an online database of UN documents that was first launched in 1993 and updated in 2016. ODS has full-text, born-digital UN documents published from 1993 onward, including documents of the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and their subsidiaries, as well as administrative issuances and other documents.

Treaties in Force "Treaties in Force is prepared by the Department of State for the purpose of providing information on treaties and other international agreements to which the United States has become a party" as of January 1, 2010.
International Criminal Court Learn about the structure of the court, information about the court, open investigations and closed cases, rules and regulations of the court. Also includes annual reports and a bibliography of relevant texts.

Uppsala Conflict Database Includes information on conflicts, various types of violence and peace agreements for countries and region.

International Law Observer A blog dedicated to reports, commentary and the discussion of topical issues of public international law as well as EC/EU-law. Includes a substantial list of links for public international law.
ForeignAssistance.gov The Foreign Assistance Dashboard provides a view of U.S. Government foreign assistance funds and enables users to examine, research, and track aid investments in a standard and easy-to-understand format. The Dashboard is still in its early stages of development.
Coface: Economic Studies Site presents country risk information in three main sections: Country Risks, Sectors and Business Climate. The sectors section contains global snapshots and ratings of industries.
World Food Situation Contains information on the world food situation including commodities, food situation indicators and reports on short and long term market issues.
OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) The OECD studies social, economic, and environmental challenges with the goal of finding solutions.
International Trade Administration The International Trade Administration, as well as other organizations, publishes a variety of trade-related statistics and tools for public use.
GlobalEdge View indicators and indices relating to the health of a country's economy, as well as basic information about their political systems.
World Development Reports The World Bank's annual World Development Report (WDR) is a guide to the economic, social and environmental state of the world today. Each year the WDR provides in depth analysis of a specific aspect of development.
International Trade Center Statistics and information on international trade, organized by country.
