The novels, poetry, art, film, etc. of a country can tell you a great deal about it. What do people reflect on? How has the past informed the present? What type of art is important to a country?
Everyone loves pictures - they can convey an incredible amount information succinctly and effectively.
Just remember to tell your reader what they're reading or looking at, and why they should care!
